In times like these, those marginalized and often struggling with poverty are worst affected. And for them, facing adversity has turned out to be just another roadblock on the way – something they are just too familiar with.
Realizing the situation financially marginalized face, especially in the times of a pandemic, the government of India, under PM Narendra Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana.
What does the scheme offer?
The scheme primarily offers relief to the poor in the form of food grains and more for months to come, to help poorer masses of India get through the crisis. Under the scheme, citizens will be able to avail 5kg of rice or wheat over what they usually are able to get on ration cards. Furthermore, citizens will also get 1kg of chana (pulses), which will be made available for families per month.
There are other benefits also falling under the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana which offers citizens with monetary benefits especially to farmers and senior citizens, widows, the differently-abled among many others.
Recent updates on the scheme
Looking at how the situation entailing the pandemic has not gotten any better, the government of India has decided to extend the benefits of the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana till November 2020.
There are many who are finding it difficult to merely get by, in light of the crisis that has befallen all. While the rich have some savings to get by through tough times, the poor really function of fumes and hence the government decided to provide monetary aid to those who really need it in times like these.
