The stigma around the birth of a girl child has been around for decades now. With the turn of the century, it is high time that people come to terms with the importance of women in the world and how, when rightly empowered, can drive the nation towards a better future. Realising the potential of the girl child and to repair the diminishing balance of the sex ratio in the country, the government of Chhattisgarh has launched the CG Kaushalya Maternity scheme – a welfare scheme for the birth of a girl child in the state.

About the CG Kaushalya Maternity Scheme 2021

Usually, the birth of a girl child is frowned upon because traditional parents think that arranging the wedding for the girl child will simply bankrupt the family in the long run, owing to malpractices in the society like dowry.

The implementation of this scheme aims to basically incentivise mothers on the birth of the second girl child. The assistance amount offered will be a sum of ₹5,000 for which the mothers of the newborn can apply, either online or offline.

Objective of the CG Kaushalya Maternity scheme

  • To drive away from the stigma that surrounds the birth of a girl child.
  • To offer financial assistance to the mother so as to sustain herself and her child.
  • Long term empowerment of the mother and the child.

Wrapping up

For ages, the birth of the girl child was not welcomed. This has led to several imbalances in society and it’s about time that governments work towards fixing this imbalance. With the implementation of the scheme, the birth of the second girl child will no longer be looked down on or frowned upon.

The CG Kaushalya scheme will help mothers get financial assistance and families will welcome the second child with the same alacrity as they would with a boy child. The scheme aims to establish equality in the state and create awareness among families that receiving a girl child in the family is just as rewarding as a boy.

It is only a matter of perspective and with changing times, families have to now come to terms that the 21st century is an equal world – there is no difference on the basis of gender or birth and that if one’s got enough potential, they could change the whole world. All a changemaker needs is a chance.
